Close working relations with the Univ. Training Program (Bangur) in Calcutta has been further strengthened. This
is exemplified by the conference last Oct on spinal and peripheral nerves that was jointly held between NNC and Bangur. There is a lot of interchange between NNC faculty and those at Bangur. Prof. Bhattacharya, who is now also the Dean of Medicine, in addition to head of neurosurgery at Bangur is closely attached with us. This coming September we are hosting another conference (we are trying to have this as a CME event sponsored by the Indian Med Council) on neuro-oncology.

Dr. Deepu Banerjee, is on a sabattical from Lucknow since November. His ability to come to work at NNC was facilitated by a sponsorship letter from FIENS. He represents the 3rd neurosurgeon, and complements the four neurologists on staff at NNC. His area of special interest is in skull base. In fact Chandranath Sen is currently
doing some skull base tumors with Deepu at NNC. Robin Sengupta, who is the main motivator and worker of
NNC, is there currently and goes every 6-8 weeks.

NNC has been taken over administratively by us, allowing accelerated growth. With our clinical activities and staff, we will be applying for a training center site status in the near future. We now have our own dedicated neuro ICU (11 beds), ORs(2), ward (50 beds). The neurologists and neurosurgeons see several thousand cases a year, and
I believe this provides an excellent experience for visitors.
